This is another of those themed paper tears that are so popular with magicians. This one from the fertile mind of Ian Adair will be a hit at any Birthday Party show. The effect and presentation are best detailed in Ian's own words below.

"Performer displays a strip of wide paper with numbering as follows: 1 0 0 0 He tells the children that the birthday child is celebrating his/her birthday today and (display paper strip) he's 1000 years of age. The children laugh. He's not..oh dear (performer rips off a zero (0) at the end.. sorry, the birthday boy is 100 years of age today, that's right, isn't it?

It's not! Oh Dear! (he rips off another zero (0). That's it.. he's 10 years of age today (most kids parties are 3 up to nine). He's not.. oh dear, I'm getting it all wrong..(rips off another zero) - I've got it right this time, he's 1 year of age today (the children laugh really loud..cause..he must be a little baby!). He's not 1 year old, (all pieces are bundled together and restored ala regular strip paper tears). I know what age he is..he's seven years of age, and let's wish him a Happy Birthday (Which is now the message on the restored strip)!"

Magician explains that the cubes cannot come off either end of the rod because of the stoppers. He also explains that no matter which way the rod is held the red cube is always to the outside. He drapes a silk over the rod and snaps his fingers. When the silk is withdrawn, it is seen that the red cube has miraculously jumped into the center.

The rod can then be given out for examination and the spectators will find it impossible to change the sequence in any way.

The performer states that the Queen owns a very valuable crown and in its center is a priceless jewel. He further states that when the Queen is not wearing her crown she asks for the priceless jewel to be removed and placed inside the special security safe. He opens, first the first door, it's not there. He opens the second door and points as if it is there, but it isn't. The priceless jewel has gone missing. Then he uncovers the crown to show that the jewel is there, set in the center of the crown. He removes the jewel, pokes his fingers through the big gap and recovers the crown. He places the jewel inside one of the compartments of the two-doored case (safe!) closing the door.

Here the usual tipping from one side to the other takes place, (ala the Die Box) the jewel has gone. Perhaps someone has stolen it. Each door, one at a time being opened for the fun, then both, It Has Gone! Where can it be? He rushes over to the silk covered crown, whips the silk off, but it is not there. He covers it again, gets the children to shout out the magic words etc. and yes, when revealed, it's back in position, set in the center of the crown. (It is not necessary to cover it, you can have the Jewel re-appear visibly if you prefer.)

This is very simple, very clever, very deceptive, and the props look attractive. It is easy to do, and costs much less than you would expect to pay for such a great magic routine.

From the fertile mind of Ian Adair, prolific creator and author of some 240+ magic books, comes this gem of a "Just Chance" effect, suitable for most audiences, and all performing conditions.

The performer shows a clear net bag, one the audience can easily see right through. In this "nest" are five different colored eggs, from some exotic rainbow bird. Four spectators participate.

Each freely picks an egg from the bag, lucky dip style. No Forces, or "outs", and the last egg is left for the performer. When the four spectator's eggs are "cracked open", they contain candy, or consolation messages. A spectator can open the performer's egg (he needn't touch it at all), and it has a diamond ring, or a large denomination currency bill.

You have complete control over the contents of your selection, and theirs. If you prefer, you could have the four kids get trinket jewelery, while you get the insides of a real egg! Or have five spectators participate, including the birthday boy or girl, who gets the prize. And it need not be the last egg selected or left behind, the birthday boy can take his pick any time and still get his prize.

While talking to the audience, the performer casually pours liquid from a bottle held in his right hand into a glass held in his left hand. Suddenly, he releases the glass... but it doesn't fall! That's right, the glass remains in the air, FLOATING, while the performer is still pouring the liquid! Casually, he takes hold of the glass, and continues his performance.

The spaceship´s door opens, and the aliens emerge. You show four cards with beautiful colorful pictures of aliens on both sides. One of the aliens is removed and heads to town (the deck) to investigate.

The astronomer has set out to spy on the aliens. When he sneezes, they grab him (the blue backed King of Spades is added to the remaining three alien cards), and using some unknown alien technology, the aliens change their appearance and you show four blue backed Kings of Spades!

The astronomer escapes, the alien who went to town returns, and the cards change back into four green aliens! The aliens climb back in their ship and blast off and the Earth is saved!

A clever, timely story. Beautifully made cards, includes envelope with the picture of the alien spaceship. No complicated sleights, easy to do and visually stunning.

A playing card is selected and lost in the deck. A small packet of baseball cards are shown to be all different. After mixing the baseball cards the top one is seen to be a baseball player swinging a bat. The spectator inserts the baseball card anywhere in the deck. He is told that the baseball card will find his selection. The cards above and below the baseball card are checked and found not to be the selection. For a startling conclusion the baseball card is turned over to reveal that the player in the picture is now holding the selected card instead of his bat.

Comes with all necessary baseball cards (use your own deck). Can be repeated.

• Animated Fork - A fork is placed on a table and mysteriously moves.
• Phenomenon Fork - A fork is placed on a hard surface and begins to spin rapidly as the magician waves his hand above it. It stops and spins in the other direction. As soon as it stops it can be picked up for examination by the audience.
• Falling - An object is placed on the table in front of the performer. Passing his hands around it, he makes it fall.
• The Floating Card - The magician, holding a deck of cards, takes one card with his right fingers and causes it to remain suspended from his thumb. He slowly removes his hand away and the card remains floating in mid-air.
• Jumping Fork From Glass - The magician performs a little concerto with a fork on the rim of a wineglass. The fork is then placed into the glass. The magician conducts the fork, waving his hands over the glass. The fork begins to slowly climb out of the glass and suddenly jumps out, dramatically falling down to the table.
• Mystery Glasses - A pair of sunglasses is placed on a table. Mysteriously they stand up on their own and, in some cases, the frame-arms fold shut.
• Self Revealing Card -A card is freely selected and returned to the deck. The deck is squared and placed on any surface. The magician waves his hands some distance above the cards and the deck mysteriously separates. One card pops out of the deck. It is shown to be the selected card, and all may be handed out to the audience for immediate examination.
• Matchical Magnetism - A match held by a spectator visibly jumps to join another match in the magician's hand.
• A Touching Trick - The magician causes someone to feel he has been touched without any apparent contact. While the eyes of the audience are on him, and while his own eyes are closed, a spectator feels that his hand has been touched. The audience can plainly see that the magician did not touch the spectator.
• The Floating Ring - The magician borrows a ring and displays it on his finger. The ring is suspended from his finger. The finger is moved away and the ring remains floating in the air totally unsupported. The magician plucks it from the air and hands it immediately back to its owner!

Completely self contained and easy to do.

But that is not all. The magician can immediately repeat the effect with any object at all that does not weigh more than 2 lbs, 1kg. He does not have to pick up or palm anything, he does not have to touch his body (no, there are no strings stretched across the room either!) or make any new preparations! A member of the audience simply puts any object on the table (a handkerchief, a banknote, a lighter, a pack of cigarettes, a candlestick with a burning candle, a burning petroleum lamp, anything). The magician takes the ring, moves it over the chosen object - and, just like before, it floats in the middle of the ring!

Catalogue talk! you might say, That is just impossible! On the contrary, we say, Of course it is possible. Astor performed this effect any number of times and totally amazed his audiences with it. And you might be even more amazed when we tell you:

• The magicians hands are always empty!
• He does not pick up any aids, so he does not have to secretly put any away!
• He can float any object as often as he likes (and, of course, not only things borrowed from the audience, but also anything of his own, such as a large ball, a glass, a bottle with liquid - in other words, anything that isn't very heavy).
• The ring and the objects are completely unprepared, and can be examined at any time!
• No wires, ring pullers, magnets or that sort of thing!
• This effect can be performed before surrounding audiences, at a distance of 7 feet / 2m.
• No training required!

Can you imagine a better effect? We can't! You can use any larger ring for this effect and it can be of metal, wood, plastic or just about anything. Of course an aid is actually used; you can easily make it yourself. The richly illustrated instructions explain everything clearly, so that even a beginner can perform this amazing trick.

The trick can be immediately repeated with any object of no more than approx. 2 lbs, 1kg in weight.
