Several magicians have made their reputation with this classic trick. The basic effect is that a number of solid metal rings which have been examined by the audience magically link and un-link at the magicians command. The rings are linked into chains and designs comprising of from two to eight rings.
The effect is capable of infinite variations, and the routine can be as short or long as you like. It can be performed silently to music, or with a patter presentation, with or without the help of assistants from the audience, as your fancy dictates. There are dozens of presentations for this effect, varying from routines using just three or six rings to routines using all eight rings. Many routines can be found in almost all standard text books of magic.
The secret is very simple, but the possibilities are unlimited, and any magician who wishes to present this item must go through some of the abundant literature available for this trick.

The performer displays a rectangular box open on top and bottom, where the front and back swivel completely open, allowing the audience to see all sides of, and right through the box, which is completely empty.
Closing the sides to reform the box, the magician reaches in and produces several silks, or a large bunch of flowers. He then reaches into the box and produces a solid glass full of milk, soda pop, beer, or any other liquid, which can be poured out of the glass, and drunk if you wish. Spectator #2 then takes a second deck of cards and deals them one at at a time into the performer's hands. The second spectator stops dealing wherever he chooses and sets a card aside.
Spectator #3 then reaches into the performer's pocket where he finds and removes a single card. Other than this card, the pocket is completely emtpy.
Incredibly, all three cards match!! The spectator is left saying, "No Way!"

Next, the tabled card is turned face-up only to show that the card is NOT matching the spectators selection. This is a jumbo size model of the item, suitable for presentation to a much larger audience. In effect performer displays a box measuring some 4.5 inch long, 3.52 inch wide and about 2 inch high. The box is opened, and the entire inside is seen to be occupied by six large dice, each dice measuring 1.5 inch on all sides.
There is absolutely no place in the box for anything else. The dice are arranged in the box to display all the six different numbers. The box is closed. Another large dice is now introduced, and the spectator asked to roll this. Let us presume he throws the number four. The box is opened, and all the dice have now re-arranged themselves in the box, with the four spots on top.
Although there is a force, we supply two loaded dice with the set, allowing you to repeat the effect before the same audience with a different number. The performer introduces a packet of Trivial Pursuit cards and places them on the table. He then turns away and need not look at or touch the cards again. The spectator is instructed to cut into the cards and take one out. He looks over the questions on the card and decides on one but tells no one. Following a prelude test dealing with the category of the question that has been chosen, the performer writes something on a piece of paper, folds it up and hands it to the spectator. The spectator is asked to read aloud the question, and then turn the card over and read the answer out. Next he is asked to open the paper and read what the performer wrote. He does so and it is the exact same answer! The performer asks that the cards be handed to a different person. This person is also asked to cut into the cards and take one out. He too chooses a question. This time the performer writes nothing down, he simply announces both the category and the answer to the question the spectator is merely thinking of!

After a wooden toothpick is closely examined, the magician crunches it between his teeth and swallows it. The toothpick then mysteriously appears in the middle of the pack...stuck through the selected card!
Please note, because each gimmick is hand-crafted, no two look exactly alike. Some of the squashed ends of the FLATLINE gimmicks are a tiny bit rounder, others are a tiny bit flatter, etc.
The volunteer reveals in front of the audience the drink that he thought of:
To the surprise of the audience, the performer opens the paper bag that was standing on the table amazingly the same drink that he thought of is inside the paper bag.
The effect for the prop as supplied runs as follows. The performer shows a large wooden baton, with three cords running through it. At the end of each cord is a ball, two of which are of the same color (say red), and one a different color (say yellow). The performer shows the cords run freely through the holes, and the balls are securely tied on the cords. He claims he will make the ball jump from one cord to the other. He passes the baton behind his back, and the odd colored ball jumps from one end (say left) to the other (right).
The audience is not impressed, they know you are just turning the baton around behind your back. You repeat this once again, and even the politest member of your audience will not hesitate to express their dis-enchantment. You appear offended at not be believed, and offer to prove conclusively that the balls do jump from one cord to the other. The baton is passed behind the back once again, and when brought to the front, the odd colored ball is now tied on the middle rope, between the two similar colored ones.
The model we supply uses thick cords, and large balls, making it very visible even on the larger stage. However, you can easily adapt the baton for use in any of the other presentations that have appeared in print. You could perform this with three large silks, two of the same color, and one a different color. In this case the silks could be examined, then passed through the holes in the baton (with the help of a pencil or slim magic wand) and knotted on top. A very clean cut presentation, not possible with the traditional Monkey Bar. You could use colored ribbons in place of the cords.
Another popular presentation has a set of linked rings from a Linking Ring set tied to two of the cords, and a single ring to the third cord. The linked rings are adjacent to each other at the start, and the single ring appears between them at the finish. Other presentations involve different a fish at the ends of the cords. The fish is at the end of the fishing line. You could use any toy (birds, a monkey, rabbit, or even glo-bugs or aliens) tied to the cords, depending on your presentation theme. A mechanical prop, very easy to use.
